If you imagine a game of football you will probably weave the sound of the referee’s whistle into your imaginings without having to consciously think about it, so synonymous is the sound. The same is also true of many of our favourite and most exciting games such as rugby, netball, hockey and many more sports that make use of the shrill call of the whistle to maintain order and accountability on pitches, fields and arenas all over the world.
When the whistle sounds, every player and sports fan knows to pay close attention to whatever comes next, whether they agree with the outcome or not. This level of command is universally recognised by players at all levels; from youth clubs to international teams, it is a sound that is impossible to ignore.
Here at ACME, we understand the significance of the whistle’s call and we realise just how important it is that every referee, coach, and umpire has a whistle they can rely on. Knowing that this simple yet integral piece of sporting equipment will

While we are huge fans of all kinds of sports, the footy really does have a special place in our hearts and that’s why the FIFA World Cup is an event we look forward to with keen interest. Of course we like to support our national team, but it is also excellent to see other nations put their best foot forward and show the world what they are made of.
It’s not uncommon for the FIFA president to make a comment on the quality of the competition, and this year was no different. FIFA president Gianni Infantino predicted that 2022 would be the best competition ever, and while this is a bold claim it turns out he wasn’t mistaken despite the controversies that plagued the tournament from the offset.
Despite this, the performances we were treated to throughout the competition were stellar and made the World Cup of 2022 a real treat for football fans and sports lovers all over the globe. There was plenty to keep us all on our toes, from some shocks in the group stages to unexpected results in the

In the chilly depths of winter, the summer sun can feel like a distant memory. It’s at this time of year that many people find themselves thinking about what they plan to do once the weather starts to warm up again. There is nothing quite like spring and summertime in England and we are lucky to have access to some of the most beautiful countryside and coastlines in the world that give us thousands of reasons to head outdoors.
Walking, hiking and camping are all favourite summer pastimes, but there is another that we feel should be up there among the top family activities in summer: boating. There are so many reasons to give boating a try that it would be impossible to cover them all, so we will keep this one brief. If you have ever thought about giving boating a try, or are looking for new ways to spend time in nature in the spring and summer of 2023 this is your sign to book those family boating lessons or buy that kayak you’ve always wanted.
Something for the whole family

We love to complain about the weather here in the UK, but all in all we are quite an outdoorsy nation even if that only extends as far as family picnics or some hiking in the summer. As winter draws in we often retreat indoors to avoid the worst of the weather and this means we often aren’t as active as we should be throughout the colder months. Watching the Winter Olympics and other winter sports from the comfort of our homes might be enough for some, but for those who want a first-hand piece of the action there are lots of ways to join in with winter sports and activities.
Snowfall in the UK may not be quite enough to rival that in the French Alps, but if you know where to look you can find all the thrills and spills of the ice and slopes right on your doorstep or just a few hours away. ACME Whistles has long been an advocate for getting everyday people to be more involved with sports, especially young people, and is proud to be a supporter of many different sporting initiatives in England.

We may currently be in the midst of the Fifa World Cup and this is deservedly taking up a lot of focus in the sporting world at the moment. Here at ACME Whistles, we feel it is worth taking a moment to reflect on and celebrate the successes and progress made throughout the Women’s Rugby World Cup of 2023. England’s Red Roses are truly a formidable force as they have demonstrated time and time again on the playing field.
It isn’t often that England’s teams are given the chance to truly shine, but this year has seen some incredible performances from the Lionesses at the Women’s Euros and then at the Women’s Rugby World Cup by the Red Roses. With such a lot of world class talent on show it’s no wonder that interest in women’s sport has skyrocketed this year and this momentum is expected to have a knock on effect for women and girls in sport in the coming years.
A bright future for the sport
It is truly remarkable to think that the England team’s victory over Canada at the semi-finals was the

The UK has a long and colourful sporting history, and it’s something that many of us are rightfully proud of. From our cup-winning football teams to our international prowess in national favourites such as rugby and cricket, there are many things to celebrate about this cultural phenomenon.
The global popularity of many sports has roots in Britain, which was instrumental in popularising many sporting events throughout the 18th and 19th centuries. For example, the modern game of football has its origins in the UK, more specifically England, and the Football Association which is the game’s first governing body was founded in the mid 1800s in England.
ACME Whistles is proud to have played a part in this sporting history in years gone by, and remains heavily involved in supplying professional standard whistles for a range of well-loved sports. Sports whistles need to be of a superior quality so that referees, umpires and invigilators can be confident that their whistle will be a reliable means

Ever seen a game of rugby without a referee? No? That’s because referees are just as integral to the sport as its players and fans.
But you may be shocked to hear that only a third (34%) of qualified officials stay to oversee more than three games.
That’s why ACME Whistles is proud to announce our partnership with The Rugby Football League, to help keep referees in rugby.
The new programme launched this week by RFL referees Ben Thaler and Liam Moore, will celebrate referees from their entry into the sport, right through to the most decorated referees and ambassadors of the game.
Our new partnership will support the hundreds of referees coming through RFL training courses each year with an additional layer of expert advice, content, and support.
The partnership will also celebrate inspirational stories throughout the year, building to a yearly awards evening honouring referees from community to professional level.
To celebrate the first three games, our up-and-coming referees will be awarded

Football for many of us is more than just a sport, it’s a way of living. Whether you support your local team or travel miles for every match, you are guaranteed to feel at home within your club's stadium. In fact, many supporters form strong rivalries with opposing teams whilst firmly standing by their chosen team. Yet there is one team every football fan will support each time they play, sticking with them through the ups and downs (and there's been a lot!).
The England squad gets the whole nation singing, whether it's down the pub, in our own homes, or at the stadium. Events such as The World Cup and The Euro’s brings the football community together and allows some of the best players in the game to shine. However, the football rivalry won’t stop because the players are on one team, as many of us take the opportunity to gloat about star players being from our club. But which places have dominated the England line-up throughout the years?
In order to find which places gifted us the most

When considering after-school activities, many lean towards the sporting world. This will usually come from a dream of being England's next top goal scorer. However, Archie Redford has taken his passion for Rugby one step further, as he took to the field and refereed his first match - something he hopes he will turn into a lifelong career.
How did Archie get involved in Rugby?
The Redford family from Halifax eat, sleep, and play Rugby. His dad is the chairman of the local club, Elland, whilst mum Gemma is the child welfare officer. It is no wonder why Archie has such a passion for the game.
When he isn’t playing Rugby for his U13’s team, you will find him helping out the club wherever possible. His spare time has always been devoted to the game, and it seems he would do anything and everything to get involved in training sessions.
For his mum, Gemma, it comes as no surprise. “I think he's seen how much we give, and he’s always wanted to get involved, whether holding a tackle bag, when we

Here at ACME Whistles, we have invented many of the significant developments in whistle technology over our 150-year history.
Our innovators are always looking for ways to improve our range of products to ensure our customers get the best whistle experience possible.
We are proud to announce that our range of plastic whistles will now have SUPRA-GUARD antimicrobial additives, which are proven to protect against harmful bacteria.
From this point onwards, the new plastics will be included as standards in all of our plastic whistles, designed for everything from sports coaches to dog trainers.
What are Antimicrobials?
Antimicrobial plastic technologies can be found in more places than you’d expect. From healthcare to food, antimicrobials offer protection against potentially harmful bacteria.
The antimicrobials used in all of our whistles are safe, non toxic, fully compliant and can effectively inhibit the growth of microorganisms.
